White rocks, blue sea – these are the chalk cliffs on the island of Rügen
In the north of the largest German Baltic Sea island, there on the peninsula Jasmund, extends a several kilometers bright white chalk coast
The best-known formations are the “Stubbenkammer” and the 118 meters high Königsstuhl or king chair. The Swedish King Karl XII. fought a naval battle in 1715 against the Danes right there. Today, the National Park welcomes you in peace and invites you to hike through ancient forests.
A Tip: If you travel a bit to the north, you will find another natural wonder on the ocean. Part of the Gulf of Bothnia in the Baltic Sea is the Höga Kusten / Kvarken Archipelago, a UNESCO World Heritage site between Sweden and Finland that looks truly spectacular.
