A delightful side trip west of Frankfurt leads to Limburg an der Lahn Altstadt, a charming medieval town steeped in history. We parked our car below the Woolworth store in the Old Town parking garage and began our exploration from there.
I absolutely love the charming cobblestone streets and the beautifully preserved timber-framed homes, known as Fachwerk, which are abundant in Limburg. The town is rich with architectural detail and fascinating history at every turn. It’s worth noting that one of the oldest homes here, the Werner Singer House, dates all the way back to 1289!
We were there in late August, and I heard that the enchanting Christmas Market in early December is definitely worth a visit too. We thoroughly enjoyed shopping and relaxing at outdoor restaurants or cozy cafes, soaking in the lively atmosphere.
Don’t forget to take a scenic walk up to the Dom, or cathedral; just be prepared as you need to be good on foot for this trek. Limburg truly is a remarkable historic gem that captivates all who explore its charming streets.
We concluded our delightful day with a warm cup of coffee and a slice of delicious cake, savoring the moment before we strolled back to our parking garage. The atmosphere was perfect as we reflected on our experiences in this beautiful town.
