The”Giant” in Miltenberg

The „Zum Riesen” was documented as a Medieval Hostel, and is now operated as a Hotel. The “Giant” can justifiably be called The Oldest Royal Hostel in Germany. Dr. Ph. Madler mentions in his 1865 historical memorabilia of the Inn “Zum Riesen”, that Charles IV took quarters there for eight days in February 1368. Continue reading The”Giant” in Miltenberg

Between vineyards, forest and the romantic Main valley lies the gateway to Spessart and Odenwald. At the medieval half-timbered town of Miltenberg, I met my sister and husband to have lunch at the Oldest Guesthouse and Hotel “Zum Riesen” Continue reading Miltenberg has the oldest Guesthouse in Germany

Born and raised in Bavaria, I carry with me a deep love for food, art, and European culture. Now living in the U.S., I share the traditions and flavors that shaped me, especially through cooking, which is my greatest joy. My kitchen is where memory meets creativity, a place where every dish tells a story and connects past and present. Travel inspires much of what I do. Exploring historic towns and vibrant cities across Europe, I collect stories, flavors, and recipes to recreate at home. Beyond cooking, I find expression in painting and glass mosaic art. My motto: I travel not to escape life, but so life doesn’t escape me.

Remove the baked bread from the pan with a spatula and place on a cooling grate
Other essentials are a Danish Dough Whisk, since there is no kneading, you’d just stir while adding the beer water mixture.

A secret ingredient is Diastatic malt powder. Savvy bread bakers use it to promote a strong rise, great texture, and lovely brown crust. Just 1 tsp for 3 cups flour, and you would see and taste the difference.
