My friends Margarete and Anneliese until recently owned the Hotel and Restaurant Stadt Mainz (see update on bottom)
The Hotel with Restaurant has been a family business since 1920. Located in the Semmelstrasse, right in the center of Würzburg, and only 500 meters from the Marktplatz and the Residenz Castle

The History and Beginnings of the “Stadt Mainz” in Würzburg
When I visit Würzburg to see family, we had lunch together at their Hotel. Their food is always yummy. Margarete and Anneliese have sold their hotel, and it is operated now by a younger generation. Sadly they just lost their mother, she was the Rock of Stadt Mainz.
Inside lovingly decorated through the times, with pictures of meeting dignitaries and VIP, even royals as you see below. The Hotel now also has a full Restaurant serving breakfast and Franconian delicacies.
Update: Margarete and Anneliese made the decision to turn over the keys in 2019 to a new and younger Generation of Würzburgers
